Self-Watering Planters India: Effortless Care for Happy, Healthy Plants 🌿

From Silence in the Corners to Life on the Ledge

There was a time when homes felt too quiet no noise, no movement, just silence. Lockdowns made every day feel the same, like life had hit pause. The outside world felt unreachable. During that pause, we craved for life. Not noise, not screens, but a breath of green.

People turned to plants for comfort and for many, self watering plants became a saviour. Suddenly, they felt like part of the family.
Sometimes, they became mood lifters. Sometimes, just silent listeners and completely quiet, but always there.
It feels like a small touch of nature inside our closed rooms.

But as the world reopened and routines returned to normal , even self watering plants were sometimes left behind- dry, forgotten, tucked away in quiet corners.

That’s when Kyari bloomed. Not just as a product, but as a thoughtful answer to a silent problem.

Founders’ Story: Big Dreams, Small Beginnings

Kyari founders presenting self-watering planters on Shark Tank India.

This story begins  in a small town, with big hopes and the courage to try something new.

Agam Choudhary, born and raised in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, was never the one to follow the crowd. While others memorized formulas, Agam was busy chasing ideas- selling, testing, trying, failing, and starting again.

For him, business was never just a school subject. It was his instinct. By the end of school, he was sure he wanted something different not a normal office job.

In 2017, he moved to Indore to persue a B.Tech degree  at SGSITS, and that’s where the dream got direction. A year later, in 2018, he co-founded his first startup, RobotBanao.com, from a hostel room a

The startup sold electronic components online and clocked ₹13 crore in sales with nearly ₹90 lakhs in profit before even he  graduated.

In 2021, Saksham Jain joined the journey. He saw beyond the pretty pots and green leaves .he saw the frustration sitting quietly behind them.” People loved bringing greenery into their homes.
But keeping those plants alive was a challange.  Forgotten corners, dry soil, overwatering- the intent was there, but the care was missing.

This was  where Agam and Saksham found their common ground. Not just in building a business, but in creating something thoughtful self watering plants that made plant care easy.
They aimed to design indoor planters with water reservoirs and modern plant pots that could keep plants healthy without constant attention.

Something that makes nature easier to live withThat “something” would soon be called Kyari.

  Kyari: Where Green Meets Innovation

In 2022 , Kyari was born. The name itself means “flower bed in the regional language of MP & UP  "a nod to their roots" . But it wasn't just about plants; it was about rethinking the experience of caring for them.

Most self-watering planters in the market were designed to look smart , but very few were actually solving the real problem... No one asked the most important question: how much water does a plant actually need?

Kyari did.
They studied how much moisture soil holds in a week and designed pots to match smart planters that give just the right amount, no more, no less and
 launched with a core promise:

Water once a week. That's all your plant needs".

The Poetic Series: Beauty with Brains

Their first product, the 4-inch Poetic Series, was not only aesthetically pleasing  but also   highly. They designed a  thoughtfully crafted  two-layered pot, where the space between the inner and outer shells stores just the right amount of water enough to keep the plant nourished for an entire week, no refills needed.

No overwatering. No forgetfulness. Just ease.

With a price range of ₹299 to ₹399, the Poetic Series quickly became the heart of the brand, contributing nearly 90% of total sales.

Next Big Innovation: Hydrate - The Water Meter

: Kyari water meter innovation for self-watering planters.

What if your plant could tell you when it’s thirsty? That’s exactly what Hydrate, launched in August, does. Inspired by Japanese design, Hydrate changes color based on soil moisture:

  • Blue = enough water

  • White = time to water

You simply insert it into the soil. Within 15-20 minutes, it gives a signal - like a gentle reminder from the plant itself.

For Every Plant Parent: Watering Globe

Not everyone wants to switch pots. So Kyari created a bridge -a small globe with a big impact.

Just fill with water, insert into your existing plant pot at a 60–70° angle, and it’ll release water slowly, making any planter self-watering.

Solving the Supply Chain Puzzle

Shipping a live, healthy plant is no joke. Early on, Kyari struggled to ensure quality and freshness at delivery. Instead of giving up, they built a strong backend with nursery partners, defining quality parameters like leaf count and plant condition.

With 2,000+ plants shipped each day, Kyari has earned the trust of 5 lakh plant parents and counting.

Shark Tank India Appearance: A Pitch to     Remember

When Agam and Saksham stepped onto the Shark Tank India Season 4 stage, they had a fire in their eys and  solid numbers to support the pitch.

  • Ask: ₹80 lakhs for 0.8% equity

  • Valuation: ₹100 crore

  • Sales: ₹1.75 crore (2022–23)

  • Projected Sales: ₹23 crore (2024–25)

Although the final deal did not materialize, all the sharks admired their innovation, branding, and clarity. Anupam Mittal even praised their logo and design.

Ownership & Fundraising

  • Agam Choudhary – 40%

  • Saksham Jain – 37%

  • ESOPs – 7%

  • Investors – 16%

They raised ₹2 crore from a family friend and early co-founder of RobotBanao, giving the brand an early valuation of ₹40 crore.

 Kyari’s Future Vision
